A slight review....

I have a bunch of post-it notes sitting on my desk accumulating, and this seems as good of a time as any to clean off my desk. The weather is nice, I've had an iced mocha from the cool, hip indy coffee shop down the street, laundry is in progress and I think (hesitantly) that I might be as caught up as I'm going to be for the moment on a bunch of stuff.

I was thinking of doing this as a megablog, but thought that's too much for everyone, so I'm going by the size of the paper all of this stuff is written on.

But first....what has two thumbs and picked both the NBA and NHL Champs? This guy!!!
Yeah, yeah, the picture's almost a year old, I'm still that ugly, don't you worry.

So let's get into a bit of a review, shall we?

NBA Champs-Dallas Mavericks
What strikes me isn't so much the jubilation a lot of people (me included) took in seeing LeDouche shrivel up like a dude in a pool and lose a series, but his sheer lack of understanding why people hate him. He can't embrace the villain role and just wants everyone to like him. Sorry, but rules are rules-you skirt the making of a team, treat your homeland like a fresh turd, try and blame everyone else for your lack of gonads, psuedo-apologize only after a big win, cry after advancing to the conference semifinals and then tell everyone that you think hates you that they have to go back to their crappy lives. LeBron, here's free advice-learn these two words and use them like you're breathing, "No Comment".
As for Dallas, what a great showing by a bunch of old guys who just know how to play together. That is what teamwork looks like. Playing that long together also let's each other know who will be where all the time.
Coaching-what else to say other than Miami got outclassed? Nothing. Dirk Nowitzki? Simply awesome. Quit comparing him to Larry Bird while you're at it, too. They only thing they share is skin tone. That's it. I know a lot of creepy ass people out there are stoked a white guy won the Finals MVP. Funny, I neglected to see color-I saw a guy who can score from wherever on the floor, can rebound and most importantly move without the ball. He could have been maroon and I wouldn't have cared. He dominated Miami for 5 out of 6 games, and only showed up quite well in the 4th quarter of Game 6 when it mattered.
The best part about Dallas winning? Owner Mark Cuban. Talk about class-he shined like I didn't think was possible. He brought the original owner and his wife to hold the NBA trophy. He deferred all credit to the coaches and players. And in the back of my mind while watching him get the trophy all I could think about was that Major League Baseball nor the NHL wanted this guy amongst them as an owner? Cuban couldn't do a better job with the Cubs? C'mon man! How about as an owner of the Penguins? Think Matt Cooke would still be on the books? I'm just sayin'. Cuban was awesome to watch do the right thing. And in case anyone forgot what integrity in sports looks like, cast your vision towards him-he won with class and dignity. I can't say the same for the losers. Can you?

The B's hoisting the Cup
Can I get a 'Hell Yeah' for the B's winning the Stanley Cup? How awesome was that display? No team has ever won 3 game 7's...until now. Winning properly, with class? City that won handling it better than the city that lost? Check and mate.
Tim Thomas was beyond awesome. Zdeno Chara was excellent in his great solid play once again. Marchand was a scoring pest for whom Vancouver had no answer. So why didn't I write anything? Simple-I didn't want to jinx anything. Yup, I believe in superstitions. I celebrated at my buddy's house, he with a 6 month old boy, and it was the loudest whispering celebration you would ever want to hear. Did we dance the little jig we always dance when a team from Boston wins a championship? Hells Yeah we did. His wife even called us dorks....call us dorks all you want, make sure you put 'Winning' in front of that word though.
As for Vancouver-I can only say that sometimes you ought to think before you speak, or especially before you criticize.
I'm pumping the Bruins tires for a while, because that was one awesome ride. I could care less if the Mother Canucker I work with won't stop talking about next season because he lost the lunch bet to me. Enjoy the moment. Lap it up. Congrats to the Bruins management team, especially the ownership group that stepped up. I knew in my heart that if they built it, the people would show up. Best part-these B's are young, and still hungry. The thinking is this-why not keep the band together for another run at this.....
