That's right, I want to see how well I did. In blue is what I said, in red-what happened.
Devils over the Flyers in 6. Uh, not so much-Flyers in 5. Whoops.
Pittsburgh over Ottawa in 5. Shittsburgh in 6, sue me.
Washington sweeping Montreal. I couldn't be more wrong if I tried, but in my defense, I forgot an old saying I heard about quarterbacks, and I will relate it to goalies-if you don't have a #1, then you don't have anything...yes, this means you, Capitals...get a damn goalie. And as a bonus, it's nice to know that you can see something that has never happened before, like last night. Never before has a #1 seed led a #8 seed 3 games to 1 and blown it...until last night.
Bruins over Buffalo in 6. BINGO, I got BINGO!
Detroit over Phoenix in 5. Fine, Detroit took it in 7 games just to make it interesting.
Colorado over San Jose in 6. Didn't happen as the Sharks won in 6, but it was way too close.
Kings over Canucks in 6. Got the games right, just not who actually won them.
Chicago over Nashville in 4. Well, the Blackhawks won in 6, I still maintain had Nashville played remotely smart they'd have won the damn series.
Could I have done better? Maybe. Guess what else? Well-two things, one, I don't care, and two, hockey ain't my #1, 2, 0r 3 sport, so I'll take my lack of puck knowledge and consider it a decent job done. Now, on to the previews, since the Conference Semis start tonight, provided the Detroit Red Wings don't get arrested for flying in to San Jose too late. On to my picks-and as always, I have no clue what I'm talking about....
Eastern Conference
Montreal vs. Pittsburgh
I will give Montreal this-I haven't seen a team go down for a shot since the last porn I bought on Colfax. What, too much? Calm down. Hal Gill will be covering Sidney Crosby. And Montreal has the hot goalie. Shittsburgh thinks awfully highly of itself, but it is one damn talented team. I'm taking Malkin as the big scorer in this series, and it's going 6 games, as I think game 3 in Montreal is going to rattle Crosby for some reason.
Philadelphia vs. Boston
Do you really think I'm picking against the B's? Hell no! I've got a freaking salt-n-pepper beard growing on my mug in support, and I'm kinda liking it. If you like hitting, this is the series for you. It will not be easy, but the B's get a big lift from having C Marc Savard return. The psychological lift is great, but he helps in the way the lines are set up, puck movement and a little thing we like to call power play efficiency. Boston in 6, with some bloody knuckles along the way.
Western Conference
Detroit vs. San Jose
Sorry, but San Jose has become my 'prove it' team. Colorado took them to 6 games. And the Sharks have way more talent than the Avs. However, I look at Detroit as kind of a wily vet, or that crazy old guy you play basketball with at the Y. It looks like you should kick his ass, yet when all is said and done, you're losing 11-9 because he has all those old guy moves and relies on guile and the fact that he's pretty much seen it all. That's how I look at Detroit. I think Phoenix woke them up. That, and anytime you have to rely on Joe Thornton to rally the troops, I think, in a word, you're F@#$ed. There, I said it. Prove me wrong, but Red Wings in 6.
Vancouver vs. Chicago
Please read above what I wrote about Washington, then draw a ginormous arrow to Chicago. This series is going to be chippy, and oh there will be fights. When all is said and done, Chicago will sit back and wonder why it didn't trade for Tim Thomas (yeah, I said it!) to give itself a legit #1 goalie. Based on that alone, I'm taking Vancouver in 5.
Want me to write about something else? Tell me what you're looking for. I will follow up on the NBA playoffs soon enough (once all the 1st round series are over) and maybe a review of the NFL draft. But I'm open to suggestions.
