Time to catch y'all up on some things. So here's two things my Mother would be proud of, one that was just said about me a few hours ago, and one said last weekend.
A few hours ago....
"She's from Texas"
'I hadn't noticed.'
"Really, if you haven't figured it out by now, you will, she won't shut up about her squad"
'Her squad?'
"Texas A&M"
'Oh, the school with the engineers that can't build a log fire.' (What? Too soon?)
"Only an asshole would say that"
'Come now, that's kinda funny'
"not if you were there it isn't'
'Were you there?'
"No, but friends of friends were"
'Guess I'm the asshole who's not apologizing'
I'm a gem, aren't I?
Over the weekend....a conversation between my buddy Dan-O and his wife Nichole
N-"A-Ron seems like such a sweet guy"
D-'He's a good guy'
N-"I can't figure it out, why is he single"
D-'Because women don't like the truth, baby'
N-"No, no we don't"
damn near brings a tear to my eye. Oh, and I know Pops is looking down on me as I type this thinking, "That's my son!"...I told you all before, I don't keep it real, I keep it right.
So apparently I'm talking a lot of basketball....too bad! Football and basketball bring in damn near all the revenue so other people can play sports at the collegiate level, and it's the best tournament to watch, more drama, than anything else I can watch. How many buzzer beaters were last week? Any big upsets you can remember...say, like Georgetown or Kansas? Thought so. Now, that doesn't mean college hockey shouldn't get more TV love. Heck, if anything, I'd watch college hockey over college football most of the time, it's more exciting and they even have this novel concept of playing for a real champion (a novel concept, I know). So I'm all in for that. I hate that college football goes thru some arbitrary crap to tell us who we should think is the national champion, what a bunch of hooey. And then they say it's for the kids, we don't want them to miss too much school, yet basketball can play preseason games, regular and conference games, conference tournaments and the NCAA's, no problem at all.
Frozen Four
Brackets were just announced, look here to see. I like DU to win it all, I'm a homer on this one, and they'll be joined in the Frozen Four by St. Cloud State, North Dakota and Miami of Ohio. Why? Why not? Gut feeling. Where the heck are the rest of the Big Ten schools? And why isn't this tournament 32 teams and only 16? Yup, basketball has spoiled me, but I don't want that tourney to go to 96, either. I'd be all for more college hockey, and please, put it on ESPN the Ocho or something, I'll watch it. Sure beats these Law & Order marathons I've been subjected to, or anything on MTV-damn I miss music videos.
The ramp up to the playoffs? hmmm, I will have more on this once the regular season concludes and the playoffs are set. Right now, the only teams I care about are the B's and the Avs. I hope the Bruins keep on keepin' on, have found some type of groove and keep on task. As for the Avs, well, it'll be interesting to see if anyone shows up for the games. I swear every time I see them on TV it's damn near empty, and they have a good young hockey team. I think fans in Denver were spoiled when there was no real salary cap.
Cyrus, pretty cool dog. I wonder if the frog I got him has any limbs left?
The NFL Overtime change
I hate it. I've always hated the way they do this. As a fan, I'm selfish. I want another quarter, or heck the half of another quarter. I hate that 70% of the teams that win the toss win the game, on like 50% of their first possession. And I swear if this has anything to do with Brett 'Will he, won't he' Fav-ruh and the his band of fumbling Vikings not having a chance to touch the ball in the NFC Championship game this past January, I'm gonna puke. Play the whole game, not see who can kick a field goal after two plays and a penalty. And now, let's institute a new rule that will only be for the playoffs...WHY? Why not have it in the regular season, just in case it needs tweaking?
I leave you this late evening/early morning with this, and it's more of a personal thing that I've been noticing lately-anyone else seem to be catching this thing that their friends are doing..settling? It unnerves me to no end. I've got great friends who I'm watching throw themselves away for loser after loser, people that quite frankly aren't good enough for them. Or worse, they can't imagine standing up by themselves, so they need someone around, and "They'll do". Gee, that's a ringing endorsement. So please, allow me to say it to those that probably don't read this thing...HER? you date HER? HIM? You date HIM? Out of all the people in all the world, this is whom you've chosen to pass the time with? Really, you're better than that. Don't give me this crap about being afraid of being alone, or wanting companionship. Wanna friend, buy a dog! This is re-god-damn-diculous. These people suck. I've seen them, I've met them, and nope, I won't support it. I will kindly say nothing (well, sorta, I'm ranting in my own blog, but whatever) and promise you that I will not be answering questions about your relationship/whatever the hell is going on in your love life. Mostly because it's not right. Someone might be having feelings for you, and you for damn near certain don't feel the same way, and I know this because they've told me. What a crock.
Sorry, I'd rather be single and standing on my own knowing what I know than to idly pass the time futzing around with someone who, quite frankly, doesn't deserve my time. There, I said it. I was told by someone yesterday that I might want to think about moving on....to what? To whom? Where? Feel free to let me know the answers to this and I'll start to listen. I was on the phone today with a recruiter, job may be in LA, may be in Chicago, could be Charlotte, hell-even Seattle. Is that moving on far enough? I don't want to, damn it. I like my personal state right about now. Sure, some days suck, but others are great, because I know where I am. Just another lovestruck dumbass who is trying to get certain pieces together to figure out what the next step really ought to be. It's why after last week I don't want to even try to date anyone. It's a waste of time, and it's unfair. To them. I could care less about being fair to myself.
Yup, they don't like the truth.........Dan-O's right, isn't he? Sometimes I wish people were wrong.
