Alrighty, we're about an hour away from tip-off today, so here's my picks for today's games:
Cal State Northridge vs. Memphis
Come on, CSN celebrated their invite at a BW3's...Memphis, by 20 (at least). Enjoy Tyreke Evans, as I don't think he'll be back in college next year...he looks damn near 30, too!
Radford vs. North Carolina
This game will be close for 5 minutes. Then, UNC will turn it on even without Ty Lawson. However, that doesn't mean UNC walks into the Sweet 16. Keep checking info on Lawson's toe.
Binghamton vs. Duke
It'll be closer than you think, but Duke wins, but by less than 10. Binghamton has a ton of transfers from other D1 schools, so they won't be afraid of a major conference powerhouse.
Chattanooga vs. UConn
UConn, in a woodshed game, they have way too much talent.
Morgan St vs. Oklahoma
Revel in the fun that you get to have watching Blake Griffin...and then tell me if OU runs any offensive sets, it doesn't seem to me that they do. That'll hurt later on. But Griffin is a ridiculous athlete...6'10" shouldn't be able to do what he can do on a court.
Akron vs. Gonzaga
Please, Gonzaga should have this wrapped up about 5 minutes into the 2nd half.
American University vs. Villanova
I can only hope that the big white stiff on American talks smack to Donte Cunningham--one will end up crying, the other laughing. Oh, and Villanova is at home in Philly, place your bets now.
Mississippi State vs. Washington
I'm a huge believer in momentum, and Miss. St. has it. I'm not overly impressed with Washington, maybe that's because I watched their last Pac 10 tourney game, and thought they kind of whined a lot and did things to get the other team out of their game instead of playing their own game. Upset time, with a 13 seed taking care of a 4 seed.
VCU vs. UCLA
Upset #2!! Eric Maynor will become a household name after dropping 25 tonight. Great player.
Northern Iowa vs. Purdue
Purdue is sneaky good in this tournament. They are finally healthy and play good defense and have matchup issues on offense. Purdue by 12.
Butler vs. LSU
Butler, and I don't think it will be close. LSU is impatient, Butler has a bunch of patient players. This will lead to LSU trying to quicken the pace, and they aren't strong enough yet to do that without turning the ball over and being out of position on long rebounds-leading to easy hoops for Butler. Besides, Butler's home gym is where they filmed 'Hoosiers', I'm just sayin'.
Michigan vs. Clemson
I don't even think that Michigan should be in this tournament. So I'm hoping that the Clemson team that I watched blow up Duke a couple months ago shows up and wipes the Wolverines off the court. Clemson vs. Oklahoma in the second round would be a real fun game to watch.
Texas A&M vs. BYU
I'm just taking BYU on a hunch. I've seen A&M play 3 times and they've never impressed me.
Maryland vs. California
California, just because they have the better athletes. Maryland made a heck of a run, but they don't have anyone over 6'7" in their rotation.
Minnesota vs. Texas
Texas has no point guard to speak of. And Gophers coach Tubby Smith somehow manages to get another team into the tourney. How's that taste, Kentucky fans, lil' bitter? I told you, the guy can coach, plain and simple. Just wait 2 more seasons, Gophers-you'll be an elite 8 team.
Western Kentucky vs. Illinois
Upset-and no one will be surprised. Illinois has played some ugly games this season, and they will be without their PG...thanks for playing, enjoy the complimentary t-shirt, but you're going back to Champaign tomorrow.
I'll have some results tomorrow, reviewing the games for tomorrow, and maybe even some pro football stuff.
Happy Thursday!
