Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
In case you haven't heard the news, Denver Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen has released a statement that the team will now attempt to trade the douchebag QB. Sorry, that last part were my words.
Here's the statement:
"Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by Head Coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded."
I can't stop laughing at this fiasco, the childish and boorish behavior of a professional athlete, the idiocy of the owner, the fact that people can't see the guy behind the curtain pulling the strings, and some of the fans reactions to this-never realizing one thing. I'm going to break this all down, starting here;
The Fiasco
First and foremost, the head coach of the Broncos is no longer Mike Shanahanigans, it's Josh McDaniels. Josh is part of the coaching tree from Bill Belichick, which has produced the current head coaches of the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and Notre Dame. Whether or not you like it makes no difference. But you do need to know your history lessons, so here's another one for you. Belichick coached under who? Bill Parcells, a man who has rebuilt now 5 teams into winners (my definition being that they went from crap to a playoff team). Don't believe me? Fine, let your mind wander to what the NY Giants, New England Patriots, NY Jets, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins were before he showed up. Now zip it.
How does this tie into this fiasco? Anyone remember the name Terry Glenn? Bill Parcells loved the guy, Belichick wouldn't put up with his crap, cut him. Same thing with Lawyer Milloy. The New England Patriots, with Belichick and Scott Pioli devised a value system that they put on each position, much like Jimmy Johnson did with players and draft picks back in 1989. In doing so, you don't pay too much for certain positions, and you in turn have depth. Rock Solid defense along with an offense that can move the chains on 3rd and 2 is the staple of these teams. Don't believe me, again? Fine, name the running backs on the Pats 1st Super Bowl winning team. I can do it, but that's because I'm a dork (I'm okay with it).
So, how does all this tie into the fiasco? Simple, really. When you're a new coach, and your teams have needs-as the Broncos clearly do-and you have a valuable commodity that some people may want, they'll call you. Josh McDaniels didn't want to trade Cutler, he got a phone call, heck, he got multiple phone calls from teams asking about Cutler and 3 way trades. You have to answer that phone. You never know when you get your Herschel Walker trade offer. That trade set up Dallas for numerous Super Bowls. More importantly, why wouldn't Coach McDaniels want the guy he just spent the whole season guiding to 11 wins, Matt Cassel? Matt Cassel plus some draft picks for Cutler?-Heck, who wouldn't be intrigued. McDaniels has worked wonders with Cassel and Tom Brady, who just happens to be a 3 time Super Bowl winner and owns the single season record for TD passes. Maybe, just maybe McDaniels knows a thing or two about QBs, especially since he just took a guy who hasn't started a game since high school and got him to 21 TDs to 11 INTs. Cutler's numbers? 25 and 18. Thanks for playing.
And then Cutler's feelings got hurt. What cracks me up the most is that in a matter of less than a month he went from 'how could you think about trading me?' to 'Trade Me!'....best of luck in your new home Cutler. I can't imagine what McDaniels could have done with your arm and ability to roll out, along with Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal and Jabar Gaffney. Way to think it through, genius.
The behavior of 'The Player'
I did love the dig that McDaniels put out a few days ago, not mentioning Cutler by name. It's straight out of the Parcells playbook. Some things you have to earn a certain level of respect. Cutler may have made a Pro Bowl, but that means little. It's a popularity contest where the last 3 weeks aren't counted. Believe me, if they were, Cutler probably wouldn't have been named an All-Star. Here's what I wrote on 3/15/2009:
Boohoo-Broncos QB Jay Cutler and his folks have both put up their houses in Colorado for sale. All because it was speculated that the team might trade Cutler. Please, get out the WHHHHAAAmbulance-this is pathetic. Last I checked, Cutler is 17-20 in his NFL career, and better yet, was 2-4 in his last 6 starts this past season. The best part of that is the fact that if Cutler would have led his team to a win in any of the last 3 games he would have made the playoffs. Now, I don't lay the Broncos record all at Cutler's feet. But he's complaining like he should be untradeable. This is the NFL, no one is untradeable-more importantly, it's a business. So now you've got your parents involved in this. What the hell is this, little league?? Fine Cutler, take your ball and go home. Yes, you have a great arm. So did Heath Shuler and a zillion other guys who've played QB in the NFL. Your mouth is already legendary. You took on the legend of John Elway out here in Broncos country, not a wise move. Frankly, I hate the Broncos, so I could care less. But radio announcer Scott Hastings has called you out as a 'bitch', and you have no rebuttal. Sad. Jay, here's what you need to do. Shut up and play. Play for your teammates, play for the fans. You've done nothing to earn all these accolades, and now it's coming out how whiny and sensitive you truly are. That's the funny thing about QBing in the NFL-there are only 32 slots available for your job, and because you had a tiff with your new boss you decide to pout. You're not 4 anymore. Suck it up champ, and realize that you could learn something from your new coach. Hell, he just got a guy who hasn't started a game in 6 years to an 11-4 record with 21TDs and 11 INTs. What do you think he could do with your arm? Nothing, if you're using that nickel plated head of yours.
What the heck happened in 2 weeks???? Simple, Cutler turned into a little baby. Not returning calls, from the Coach who can call you plays to make you successful or the Owner who strokes your paycheck? Congrats to the team that gets this prima donna. Cassel won 11 games this year, Cutler has 17 career wins in 2 and a half seasons. Maybe Cutler turns into the QB that keeps both teams in the game. Cutler is acting like a junior high school girl who heard a rumor about herself and is all hurt. Get over yourself. Frankly, I hope he gets traded to Detroit. Then I can pick Calvin Johnson in the 2nd round of my football draft and collect some money!
The Idiocy of the Owner
Well, Pat Bowlen owns this whole thing. Ever since he fired Mike Shanahanigans, he's handled this all wrong. In brief, he should have called Cutler and told him that the Broncos were getting a great coach to use Cutler's ability to its fullest. Once Bowlen stated that he could no longer have the coach be the GM, he should have stuck to it. He didn't, and it's cost him a little bit in the PR department.
Now, after the first salvo of Cutler being hurt came out in the media, Bowlen should not have been amicable with a concall between McDaniels, the paper GM Xanders, Cutler and his agent. He should have flown with McDaniels to wherever Cutler was, go into a conference room, lock the door and hash this whole thing out. He's the Owner, the one guy who can do this. Instead, he let others control things, and now he's trying to save face. Bad move, all the way around. However, with all that being said, I happen to agree with this move. Of course, he should never have had a press release, because he might not get as much as he could have for Cutler if he had kept it quiet. Live and learn, maybe.
The Man Behind The Curtain
Bus Cook. Brett Favre's agent. Connected any dots yet? Have you not noticed how this has played out? It just sounds way too familiar to me, like when my back is to the TV and Kobe Bryant is talking-and I swear it's Michael Jordan talking. The QB is hurt that it comes down to this, blah, blah, blah. Bus is always involved. Hmmm, common denominator seems to be Cook trying to get his client more money and a new contract. Mind you, that's his job, and I can respect that. But not in the manner he's gone about it...now in the case of two starting QBs. I'm just sayin', seriously.
The Fan Reaction
This is where I'm laughing. I've already read that the new coach's name is McDickhead. Wow, how original. What, was McCrappy taken? Lame with another side of lame. Bury the team all you want, but you know you'll be gobbling merchandise and tickets up. So cut the crap. And get over it. Here's a little note to all those that are complaining that if/when the Broncos trade Cutler that Chris Simms will be the starting QB-He's won a division (no!) in a much tougher division than the AFC West, which means he's been in a playoff game (get out!), with a lot less talent-check the roster and look who Simms was throwing to-and lastly, while Cutler played all noble with diabetes...Simms ruptured his spleen in a game and still played. So I'd say he's plenty tough enough, and he's got talent around him he's never had before. And if not him, go sign Byron Leftwich to play statue and chuck it down the field.
Could they have done anything different?
Now, in my estimation the Broncos are wrong in trading Cutler. My suggestion? They shoulda suspended his punk ass. See how he likes it with being suspended for insubordination and being a detriment to the team...oh, and not getting paid. Funny thing about all of us, we can talk a bunch until someone can effect our money. Weird how that goes, huh? Let him sit at home and stew. If he loves the game, he'd suck it up. Don't be shocked to see Cutler in Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota, the Jets or my sleeper....Carolina.
Look, I know this was long, but I wanted to write something a little bit in depth. If you've got a topic you want me to cover, put it in the comments, text me, email me, call me or put up the Bat Signal so I know.

Dear lord..please... PLEASE do not let the Vikings pick Cutler up.
When I met Cutler he was a prick. Kava thinks he is a prick (and deals with him all the time). The last thing the Vikes need is a prick cry baby - I will NEVER be able to call home on Sundays!
I still love my broncos! I always will damn you!
Nice rant Bone, especially since the trade to the Bears has now been announced. Personally, I'm glad to see little cry baby Jay leave town, and I feel the Broncs got a whole lot more in return than he was worth. McD appears to be following in the legendary footsteps already!
