After I woke up I was given a lovely option to go down the street to that coffee shop, which was great, but I got a phone call on the way, my chance at a temp gig was officially over. It seems as though they went with someone who was half my bill rate and half as smart. You get what you pay for, quite frankly.
So now it will be time for me to file for unemployment...wooohoo! There are still a few other irons in the fire, but I'm not truly jazzed about them. Nothing is truly exciting me. Can I just get paid to do this...please?
This would be hysterical if it weren't true. Way to hold up the Constitution, there, school board. This is creeping right into Orwellian territory--you cannot control speech. When you control speech and you control language, that's when you begin to control thought. Good for these people for standing up to the machine, I hope they win. By the way, I love the word 'Douche', it always makes me laugh.
Finally, someone stands up and says what we all have wanted to say about a boss who is there in title only. How many of us have been there? Where the 'Boss' is never the go-to person, allows to have his/her power usurped, is lax in judgement, or even worse, lazy? How about showing up on time to meetings? A huge pet peeve of mine. You want my respect? Fine, show up to your meeting on time. I've got crap to do, too.
From Neal Boortz, radio talk show host---I can't even try to say it better than this:
Obama's labor secretary, California Democrat Rep. Hilda Solis. As of right now, her nomination is being blocked in the Senate. Any guesses as to why?
Well to start .. though this not why she is being blocked .. Hilda was a co-sponsor in 2007 of this asinine card check bill, otherwise known as the "Employee Free Choice Act." This would essentially destroy secret ballot union elections in this country. She was also the co-sponsor of another bill that would force states to allow public safety officers to form unions.
But here's where it gets interesting. At the time that Hilda was co-sponsoring all of these union bills, she was the board member of a pro-union organization called American Rights at Work. This organization had been lobbying Congress to pass these bills .. the very ones that she was responsible for co-sponsoring. And not only was Hilda a director of this organization, but we have now come to find out that she was actually the treasurer. She was in charge of all of the spending by this organization. And if that isn't bad enough, she did not reveal this information on any House financial disclosure forms.
So here we have a woman, nominated by Barack Obama to be the Secretary of Labor. She co-sponsors two union bills in the House. At the time that she is working - basically as a lobbyist -- to get these bills passed in the House, she is also the treasurer of a lobbying group that is working to gain support for her co-sponsored legislation. And then on top of it all, she kept her involvement in the lobbying firm a secret. That was until now, that she is nominated to be secretary of labor.
Just making sure you're all aware of this blatant conflict of interest/hypocrisy. So much for Change we can believe in.Interesting take on Michael Phelps. Quite frankly I hope he tells the USOC to pound sand and never competes again. Be selfish. The kid has been in the pool his whole life. Pot is not a gateway drug, and there's nothing wrong with. I've done it. Made me mellow and want to take a nap. Not the worst reaction in the world. I hate the holier than thou routine. Our last 2 Presidents and our current one have done drugs. Get over yourself. Most people try it once. Some people get way too involved in the culture. That's their choice. And boycott Kellogg's for ending their deal with Phelps. Nike and Guitar Hero can have a deal with a rapist, but a bong hit's a bad thing....right.
I don't know about you, but I need some good news. I've been searching for it for what seems like months now. But I've found it. I defy you to read and watch this and not get bleery-eyed. Nice to know that there are still some great stories out there. The human element isn't dead just yet...Thank goodness.
Everyone have a great weekend, I'm sure I'll write something, but the 'Cuse is on at 10 AM tomorrow!
