So I've got a bunch of stuff to get to, and there are some links along the way....
I will still get to my free agent update/review over the weekend, but I have to comment on the amount of dumb money Oakland is throwing around. If anyone knows a guy playing DB in the league, rest assured if they play in a Super Bowl, there's a good chance Oakland will overpay you. Larry Brown won an MVP 12 years ago by having Neil O'Donnell throw him 2 passes in Super Bowl 30, and Gibril Wilson played well for the Giants a few weeks ago. So the Raiders go and make him the highest paid safety in the game. He's not even the best safety in his division, but the Raiders are apparently going to have to overpay to get anyone to show up for them. Ever since they got rid of their old GM, Bruce Allen, they have made some very questionable decisions. They just signed WR Javon Walker to a huge deal yesterday. It's too much money for a receiver that is going to be a cancer in yet another locker room, and more than one team of doctors has stated that he will need microfracture surgery on the same knee that's already been operated on three times. He's not even 30 yet. Now, I think Javon needs a change of scenery, his best friend died in his arms a little over a year ago when Darrent Williams was shot in a limo on New Years Eve, 12/31/06.
The Raiders have also managed to spend money on Tommy Kelley, a good but not great D-Lineman, who had all of 1 sack last year and is coming off of a torn ACL. Al Davis, my number is not that hard to find, I've got a degree in Accounting, I've got me and some people that can run your scouting department and be your capologist. I can make your team a winner. Al, you need to get out of the way for that to happen.
This whole Knicks/Isiah Thomas/Stephon Marbury baloney is beyond comical. Isiah Thomas has made a mockery of one of the storied franchises in the NBA. It's really tragic. The will be over the cap until 2010, easily. He's a horrid coach, and an even worse GM. And now there is this drama, stuff that isn't even discussed or brought up on a teenager's MySpace account. The backstory is that Stephon Marbury is hurt and will be out for the rest of the season. Isiah told him not to show up to MSG for home games anymore. He's a distraction. I love this more than anyone could ever possibly know. Isiah has run 3 different businesses into the ground, was involved in a sexual harassment scandal and now tells his crazy shoot-first point guard don't show up to the Garden? Wow. Good Luck, Zeke, you're gonna need it getting another job, provided Knicks CEO James Dolan actually fires you. Or his daddy takes away the company from him.
I'll let ESPN and the NFL Network gush over Brett Favre and his retirement this week. The guy I want to say a big thanks and buh-bye to Warren Sapp. Warren made the decision to retire on the same day that Favre decided to retire. Sapp only ever did one thing in his career that I couldn't stand, and that was a cheap shot to Green Bay LT Kyle Clifton on an interception. Other than that, Warren had a motor like none other, and has a Super Bowl ring to top off a great career. I can only hope that when Favre gets inducted into Canton, that Warren Sapp is right next to him.
I'll have more tomorrow, I'll explain later!
