Let's just review this thing, and then maybe I'll be tired enough to go to sleep. As a side note, maybe having the big cup of coffee with dessert at 5 in the evening was a bad choice...who knew? Anyways, on to my split for Sunday:
Siena/Villanova: As I'm typing this 'Nova is up 13 on Siena. I was picking Siena before this game, as my Big East hatred for Villanova is well documented, so I'm sticking with Siena. So please, hit some jumpers already! Yeah, that didn't happen, and it was pretty much a Villanova lead between 10-13 pts all game. Fine, I'll just come out and say that Scottie Reynolds is a damn fine player and try to remember that come this next weekend.
Miami/Texas: I like Texas, but they better show up and be ready to go, this will not be a walk-over game. 'Horns PG DJ Augustin must dictate tempo from the tip, and they should win by 12. Um, how's 3 instead? I'll take it, it's one of my 4 wins on Sunday!
Butler/Tennessee: Okay, this should be a Sweet 16 game. I like Tennessee because they have more athletes and can play a hectic full court style, but they need to get over the seeding process and what happened on Selection Sunday, and get out and run, run, run. If they don't, Butler will not only hang, but surprise the Vols. This one should be in the 80's, with Tennessee by 8. Tennessee by 5, in OT. Okay, Vol coach Pearl, stop making me sweat already.
Davidson/Georgetown: If Georgetown decides to leave Stephen Curry alone every once in awhile, they'll lose. I doubt that will happen, but Georgetown will bore everyone to tears by winning by 11, game played in the 60's. You know what, I'm happy I got this one wrong. Davidson was down by 14 at one point, and they stormed back to win. Georgetown was sloppy with the ball and they refused to put teams away all season, and this one came back to bite them in the ass. Great for Davidson, even better for Stephen Curry, who is truly gaining some serious NBA sniffs right now. He reminds me of Reggie Miller and Rip Hamilton, running off screens all day long and can finish at the hoop, too. They will be very fun to watch!
San Diego/Western Kentucky: Western Kentucky blew its wad on Friday by beating Drake at the buzzer, I think San Diego wins by 11. Watch for Rob Jones to have a big game for the Toreros. Wrong again. Courtney Lee can score, as evidenced by his 29. My pick for Rob Jones to have a big game didn't exactly pan out, as he finished with 11/5. Not bad, but not the game I had in mind for him. He had a great freshman year and I hope to hear about him again next year. Western Kentucky will not be an easy matchup for their next game, that's for certain.
Mississippi State/Memphis: Mississippi State can play, leave no doubt, but I don't think Memphis will take them lightly and will press all day long. Memphis is a deeper team, and should take this one. Woohoo, got this one right, but only because MSU missed a 3/4 court shot at the end to send it in to OT. Memphis will play Michigan State next, they better get their rest, they will need it.
Oklahoma/Louisville: I think Louisville will come in cocky, just as their coach, Rick Pitino, is apt to do. I like OU in a slight upset. There's being wrong, and then there is being what I like to call "Mondale Wrong". Little history lesson for you...back in 1984, Ronald Reagan shellacked the living hell out of Walter Mondale to gain a 2nd term for US President. We're talking 49-1 in states here kids. Well, I thought OU would win. Uh, Louisville won by 30, and this game was well decided at halftime. Hence Mondale Wrong.
Arkansas/UNC: The 'Heels better show up with their Defensive shoes on, Arkansas is not to be taken lightly. They can score and run, but UNC has too many guys, too deep, and I think Roy Williams will have his team ready to play, so I like UNC by 15. How about by 31? I thought the Hogs would give the Heels a game at least, sheesh. But you don't win games allowing 60% FG's to your opponent.
That's all I've got for now, I'm not really tired, but I don't feel like typing anymore. Happy Monday, now get back to work!
