The Pats, it wasn't pretty, but a win is a win. And that's all that matters. I kept hearing last night that "if the Jets did this, if a ball bounced this way", well here's a little newsflash for you-there are no ifs. Plain and simple. The Jets put forth the galant heartfelt effort, but they lost. Now go back to Gate D and get arrested. 14-0, and now on to a home game vs the mighty Dolphins.
Cleveland, the play in the slop was great, even if you a reincarnation of the Cardiac Kids. I got a phone call from my Dad last night, "8-0? What, the bullpen couldn't hold the lead?" A win is a win, in no way tainted, Cleveland was better. Buffalo almost had it at the end to tie it up, but called a screen play. Uh, it's snowing sideways, no one has any traction, it's 4th down and you call a screen? I'm thinking 4 wide with a back in a shotgun, but that's just me. Standing O to Buffalo, you've had a crappy year, injuries and someone almost getting paralyzed Week 1, and a QB shuffle, yet were in it for most of the year. Nothing to be ashamed about.
Thursday night's game--Denver, your ride is officially over. Now I can stop listening to everyone in this city. The Broncos will not win a damn thing until the personnel power is taken away from Shanahanigans. He cannot judge talent. He's been way more hit than miss. And why I hate Mike Shanahan-it's mostly due to fantasy football. The man got outcoached by his former assistant, and badly. Houston ran all of the Broncos plays better, and played like it mattered. I can't say that for Denver. Hey Mike, pick a RB and stick with him. If you want to play Travis Henry, then commit to giving him 20+ carries. If it's Selvin Young, then let him tote the rock. Just pick one and stick with it.....you're driving us all mad. And your O-Line can't be happy about it either, because they all run differently.
The Mario Williams/Reggie Bush/Vince Young debate. This is why you should wait 4-5 years before really evaluating a draft. 2 years ago, Houston was getting filleted for drafting Williams. Well, he's going to the Pro Bowl, and looks like he could be going for a few years. Reggie Bush? He's Eric Metcalf. And I loved Eric Metcalf. Vince Young? He's still on the minus side for TD/INT ratio. If you were going to go rate a draft, go back to 2002 or 2003. It's still too early to determine winners and losers.
Why did I have to watch Detroit get blown out all day??? That was the late game I got to watch, on Fox....how come it wouldn't switch over to Dallas/Philly, a much closer contest. Detroit was getting it handed to them. San Diego's #3 RB busted out for 100/2TD's. And I had to watch the whole miserable thing. Usually the game gets switched, but not yesterday. Gee, thanks.
Pittsburgh, turn off the lights when you're done pretending you're a good team. You got exposed, and a serious golf clap to Jacksonville, huge win on the road. They beat the living crap out of Pittsburgh. And this vaunted defense I'm hearing about, I'm just not seeing it. Jacksonville had a 20 play drive to start the second half. 20 plays!!! The game did get tied, but Jacksonville marched right back down the field. And impressive win, since I watched the whole thing. I like games like this, a little snow, some wind, and 2 teams stating to each other "let's just see who's tougher", yesterday it was Jacksonville.
Hats off to Miami, too. I hope you are all still partying like rock stars down in South Beach. You won a game in OT, on a great play design and execution. The fact that you beat a guy that complained that the Pats got a bunch of calls, Jamaine Winborne, makes it even sweeter to me. Your stars on offense yesterday were Cleo Lemon, Samkon Gado and Greg Camarillo (is he related to Rich Camarillo, the punter?), all guys off of the street. My gameball would go to Jason Taylor. He hates where he is, yet shows up, won't let anyone quit, and blocked a FG before the end of the 1st half.
So, usually when I do this, I open up the blogger site and then start with my initial thoughts, then go to my normal reading sites to get reminders of things. And the one I'm starting to see over and over is piling on Eli Manning. I don't like the guy, we're not buddies, but this talk of 34 incompletions, the most in 40 years, is a bit much for me to stomach. He had at least 10 drops yesterday. He's playing with a #1 WR that can't practice, and just lost his Pro Bowl TE in the middle of the 3rd quarter. How do you think you'd fare? Especially if your brother was better than you. I love how people say he's awful, but he's still only 1 of 32 people that have his job everyday. What other professions can say that?
Side note-is West Virginia a AAA ballclub for Michigan. I mean, Go Blue took the Mountaineers basketball coach, and now their football coach. If I'm Major Harris and Kevin Pittsnogle, I'm throwing a fit!!! Well, at least they have Bob Huggins as their new basketball coach...so let the bad seed juco players run Morgantown.
Lastly, I just read this, and it's bringing a giggle to me: Apparently Roger Clemens has been Uninvited to speak at The Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association state convention next month, and here's the quote: Clemens "was an inappropriate influencer to baseball coaches and students alike." When your own state doesn't want you anymore, say goodbye to any and all goodwill you've built up. Here's a link to the article:

Have a great rest of your Monday!
