The Mitchell Report

If I'm Barry Bonds today, I'm doing this....

As I stated Thursday, I'm not shocked by any of the names on this list. I'm more surprised by who isn't on the list, honestly.

If you haven't seen the list, here it is, in all it's splendor (courtesy of www.baseball-reference.com):
So, for anyone watching ESPN's ad nauseam coverage, I had a question pop in my mind: Where the hell is Fernando Vina? Doesn't he work for ESPN on Baseball Tonight? Couldn't they have had him on and grilled him? He could have vindicated himself or said, "yup, I did it". He's Fernando Vina, it's not like the BBWAA was asking him to host a luncheon. ESPN, you slipped up, big time on this. The Ombudsman will be wrapping knuckles on this one.

And can we all bow down and praise Jose Canseco, the only honest one of the bunch? They wouldn't let him into the Mitchell press conference because it was "Media Only". I'm calling Bull on this one. Jose, nice work, and well played. The fact that you can now stand up and say...I Told You, it makes me nod in appreciation. If I had a Hall of Fame vote, you'd get one, just as Marvin Miller should get one.

The "this is hurtful" commentary? So in watching the coverage, I listen to some state how the names being listed could be hurtful, especially someone like a Clemens or a Pettitte. And? I'm sorry, but just because you don't like the information doesn't mean you get to dismiss that information. So what, calling Hitler a Nazi might've hurt his feelings? So what???

The "they're sewer rats" commentary? This was my other favorite commentary. Peter Gammons, I knew it and didn't want to admit it, but you have become an ally to the players and MLB. How do you think most crimes get solved? Sometimes you have to make a deal with someone shady to get the real prize. Gammons called these two informants sewer rats, but apparently it's okay for any of the guys on this list to inject illegal, controlled substances, but those that tell what they know are unsavory...yeah, right.

Another thing that creases me is this notion that people should tell kids that all this stuff is bad for you...what, from your mansion, ya hypocrite? Ask a bunch of kids if they'd take something that may or may not take years off of their life so that they, their children and their grandchildren would be set for life. I know what my answer would be. I'd do everday and twice on Sunday. I can't stand when certain people say don't do something, after they've had a blast and reaped the rewards of doing said act. Like those in Hollywood, "don't do drugs." Really? Why, so I can't sniff blow off some strippers big ol' fake titties? Bullshit. I appreciate the advice and everything, but I deserve the chance to wreck myself and reap the rewards of creative science that got you rich, too. Quit preaching, apologize, admit your faults as a man, and get out of the way.

Lastly, now that we all see Clemens on the list, does this explain the bat throwing at Piazza in the World Series? Shocking!
