Week 15-Still from someone else's couch

The Pats, it wasn't pretty, but a win is a win. And that's all that matters. I kept hearing last night that "if the Jets did this, if a ball bounced this way", well here's a little newsflash for you-there are no ifs. Plain and simple. The Jets put forth the galant heartfelt effort, but they lost. Now go back to Gate D and get arrested. 14-0, and now on to a home game vs the mighty Dolphins.

Cleveland, the play in the slop was great, even if you a reincarnation of the Cardiac Kids. I got a phone call from my Dad last night, "8-0? What, the bullpen couldn't hold the lead?" A win is a win, in no way tainted, Cleveland was better. Buffalo almost had it at the end to tie it up, but called a screen play. Uh, it's snowing sideways, no one has any traction, it's 4th down and you call a screen? I'm thinking 4 wide with a back in a shotgun, but that's just me. Standing O to Buffalo, you've had a crappy year, injuries and someone almost getting paralyzed Week 1, and a QB shuffle, yet were in it for most of the year. Nothing to be ashamed about.

Thursday night's game--Denver, your ride is officially over. Now I can stop listening to everyone in this city. The Broncos will not win a damn thing until the personnel power is taken away from Shanahanigans. He cannot judge talent. He's been way more hit than miss. And why I hate Mike Shanahan-it's mostly due to fantasy football. The man got outcoached by his former assistant, and badly. Houston ran all of the Broncos plays better, and played like it mattered. I can't say that for Denver. Hey Mike, pick a RB and stick with him. If you want to play Travis Henry, then commit to giving him 20+ carries. If it's Selvin Young, then let him tote the rock. Just pick one and stick with it.....you're driving us all mad. And your O-Line can't be happy about it either, because they all run differently.

The Mario Williams/Reggie Bush/Vince Young debate. This is why you should wait 4-5 years before really evaluating a draft. 2 years ago, Houston was getting filleted for drafting Williams. Well, he's going to the Pro Bowl, and looks like he could be going for a few years. Reggie Bush? He's Eric Metcalf. And I loved Eric Metcalf. Vince Young? He's still on the minus side for TD/INT ratio. If you were going to go rate a draft, go back to 2002 or 2003. It's still too early to determine winners and losers.

Why did I have to watch Detroit get blown out all day??? That was the late game I got to watch, on Fox....how come it wouldn't switch over to Dallas/Philly, a much closer contest. Detroit was getting it handed to them. San Diego's #3 RB busted out for 100/2TD's. And I had to watch the whole miserable thing. Usually the game gets switched, but not yesterday. Gee, thanks.

Pittsburgh, turn off the lights when you're done pretending you're a good team. You got exposed, and a serious golf clap to Jacksonville, huge win on the road. They beat the living crap out of Pittsburgh. And this vaunted defense I'm hearing about, I'm just not seeing it. Jacksonville had a 20 play drive to start the second half. 20 plays!!! The game did get tied, but Jacksonville marched right back down the field. And impressive win, since I watched the whole thing. I like games like this, a little snow, some wind, and 2 teams stating to each other "let's just see who's tougher", yesterday it was Jacksonville.

Hats off to Miami, too. I hope you are all still partying like rock stars down in South Beach. You won a game in OT, on a great play design and execution. The fact that you beat a guy that complained that the Pats got a bunch of calls, Jamaine Winborne, makes it even sweeter to me. Your stars on offense yesterday were Cleo Lemon, Samkon Gado and Greg Camarillo (is he related to Rich Camarillo, the punter?), all guys off of the street. My gameball would go to Jason Taylor. He hates where he is, yet shows up, won't let anyone quit, and blocked a FG before the end of the 1st half.

So, usually when I do this, I open up the blogger site and then start with my initial thoughts, then go to my normal reading sites to get reminders of things. And the one I'm starting to see over and over is piling on Eli Manning. I don't like the guy, we're not buddies, but this talk of 34 incompletions, the most in 40 years, is a bit much for me to stomach. He had at least 10 drops yesterday. He's playing with a #1 WR that can't practice, and just lost his Pro Bowl TE in the middle of the 3rd quarter. How do you think you'd fare? Especially if your brother was better than you. I love how people say he's awful, but he's still only 1 of 32 people that have his job everyday. What other professions can say that?

Side note-is West Virginia a AAA ballclub for Michigan. I mean, Go Blue took the Mountaineers basketball coach, and now their football coach. If I'm Major Harris and Kevin Pittsnogle, I'm throwing a fit!!! Well, at least they have Bob Huggins as their new basketball coach...so let the bad seed juco players run Morgantown.

Lastly, I just read this, and it's bringing a giggle to me: Apparently Roger Clemens has been Uninvited to speak at The Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association state convention next month, and here's the quote: Clemens "was an inappropriate influencer to baseball coaches and students alike." When your own state doesn't want you anymore, say goodbye to any and all goodwill you've built up. Here's a link to the article:

The Mitchell Report

If I'm Barry Bonds today, I'm doing this....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QdU8VlBs5Y&feature=related

As I stated Thursday, I'm not shocked by any of the names on this list. I'm more surprised by who isn't on the list, honestly.

If you haven't seen the list, here it is, in all it's splendor (courtesy of www.baseball-reference.com):
So, for anyone watching ESPN's ad nauseam coverage, I had a question pop in my mind: Where the hell is Fernando Vina? Doesn't he work for ESPN on Baseball Tonight? Couldn't they have had him on and grilled him? He could have vindicated himself or said, "yup, I did it". He's Fernando Vina, it's not like the BBWAA was asking him to host a luncheon. ESPN, you slipped up, big time on this. The Ombudsman will be wrapping knuckles on this one.

And can we all bow down and praise Jose Canseco, the only honest one of the bunch? They wouldn't let him into the Mitchell press conference because it was "Media Only". I'm calling Bull on this one. Jose, nice work, and well played. The fact that you can now stand up and say...I Told You, it makes me nod in appreciation. If I had a Hall of Fame vote, you'd get one, just as Marvin Miller should get one.

The "this is hurtful" commentary? So in watching the coverage, I listen to some state how the names being listed could be hurtful, especially someone like a Clemens or a Pettitte. And? I'm sorry, but just because you don't like the information doesn't mean you get to dismiss that information. So what, calling Hitler a Nazi might've hurt his feelings? So what???

The "they're sewer rats" commentary? This was my other favorite commentary. Peter Gammons, I knew it and didn't want to admit it, but you have become an ally to the players and MLB. How do you think most crimes get solved? Sometimes you have to make a deal with someone shady to get the real prize. Gammons called these two informants sewer rats, but apparently it's okay for any of the guys on this list to inject illegal, controlled substances, but those that tell what they know are unsavory...yeah, right.

Another thing that creases me is this notion that people should tell kids that all this stuff is bad for you...what, from your mansion, ya hypocrite? Ask a bunch of kids if they'd take something that may or may not take years off of their life so that they, their children and their grandchildren would be set for life. I know what my answer would be. I'd do everday and twice on Sunday. I can't stand when certain people say don't do something, after they've had a blast and reaped the rewards of doing said act. Like those in Hollywood, "don't do drugs." Really? Why, so I can't sniff blow off some strippers big ol' fake titties? Bullshit. I appreciate the advice and everything, but I deserve the chance to wreck myself and reap the rewards of creative science that got you rich, too. Quit preaching, apologize, admit your faults as a man, and get out of the way.

Lastly, now that we all see Clemens on the list, does this explain the bat throwing at Piazza in the World Series? Shocking!

Welcome to the FUKUDOME (can I patent the T-shirt now?)

In the news (if you don't want to read about stuff other than sports, scroll on down, my feeling won't be hurt)..

Students at CU with the soup-here's a link, read it if you want:
http://www.9news.com/rss/article.aspx?storyid=82606
Boohoo...we can only eat soup because that's all we can afford...WAH! Well I can't wait until I hear this douche crying on TV because she only got the Whitman's Sampler for Secretary's Day, all the while telling us she's an "executive administrative assistant", because that's all she's going to be capable of with an english degree. Since when did education become free? It's only about $3500 in state. "We can only afford Ramen"....yeah, so? Tell you what, you come over to my place, clean it, and I'll give you $15 and a ham sandwich, fine a veggie burger. I'm tired of listening to people whine about their lives. I have no job, do you hear me bitching about money...nope. "I have to get a job"...again, Yeah, SO? Ask anyone that knew me in college, never read a book and still graduated, and worked at least 40 hours. I swear, I'm going to be able to crap myself and out-earn these pansies when I'm 80, simply based on work-ethic alone...no one will care that I wear Depends and drool at my desk, at least I'm earning money.

South Central LA lawmakers are trying to pass a law to ban more fast food joints from opening up, but it's okay on Rodeo....hmmm, I'm pretty sure that ain't right. It's because their constituency has a high rate of obesity and diabetes. Most of this area is Hispanic and Black. Now I'm not going to sit here and state that those are the only people that are fat, Lord knows you can go to any Wal-Mart or Big Lots and find the Fat White Folk herding around the Hostess end-cap, but we've got a bigger problem here people. Is anyone else tired of government, be it local, state or federal, telling us how to act? Fine, some of the things they've got are okay, like don't murder. But that's in the Bible, too. Stop trying to dictate my behavior, is what I'm saying. So in this case, the Hispanics and Blacks in this district shouldn't be allowed to open a Mickey D's? Because if I'm in that neighborhood, what if I want to open up a BK? Now I can't be a franchiser of an establishment? And don't think white people won't pitch a fit about this either, because I can already hear some snob say that a certain "element" has infiltrated her finely manicured neighborhood because of the new Chipotle Grilled Stuft Burrito @ the Bell, and those fine folks from the 'hood just can't get it. And why, because some government nimrod wants to tell people what to eat and what not to eat. Sorry, if I want a damn #1 then I'll get it, and Super-Size that bad boy, too....I've got heart disease to work on, people.

church shootings in Colorado, and some of the reaction has been atrocious. Face it, I don't work, so I read a ton of stuff online. And I'm sure most of the people that read this out of state have heard of the shootings over this past Sunday that took some lives. Some of the posts on Craigslist and other sites have me a bit skittish. Like some are happy that people who go to church got killed. First things first, the initial shootings happened at a Missionary school, that the shooter was kicked out of some time ago. The second shooting was stopped by a volunteer, not a security guard, as it's been reported by most news sites. A volunteer to work security, who had a license to carry a weapon, shot this man, and then he shot himself and ended his pathetic existence. I know some folks aren't cool with suicide, but if it comes down to killing yourself, or killing a bunch of innocent people and then yourself, do the noble thing and off yourself.
Now I say all of that to get back to what I've read. I'm amazed at the Christian bashing I choose to read. This will, in some odd way, tie to a nugget further down. I really could care less who worships what, so long as it doesn't preach treading on others abilities to worship. You want to pray to William Shatner, knock your socks off. Just don't come into my house of worship and tell me that I have to convert or die, like say, radical Islam. I was born and raised Catholic, so I've got my own crap to deal with, but I certainly don't wish death upon those that choose to assemble to pray to God, like some of the things I've read. Beauty is skin deep, Ugly goes to the soul...and God don't like Ugly.

Based upon the above, and the shooting at a mall in Omaha, Nebraska, I'm brought back to a few weeks ago when I got to hold and fire a gun. I got to hang out with a former co-worker whom I respect a great deal, mostly for his opinions and the way he leads his life. His is a simple life, because that's the way he wants it. I don't mean simple in the 'tard way, but there is no fluff in his life. He's a huge fan of the 2nd Amendment, and I appreciate his reasoning. And I'll tie this story to the Omaha "tragedy" and the one at Virginia Tech this past April. So while he was teaching me the proper technique for holding and firing a .22, we got to talking, and how we were both amazed by those that are anti-gun and who want to take away your rights reasoning and logic for things like Columbine, and the other "tragedies" that have gone on in this country. He told me that since he has a very young daughter, if he ever hears of a gunman in her school, he will be leaving work and taking care of his kid, and if it means that the gunman has to die, so be it. Because the police will only be there to outline the body in chalk if you wait. Want proof? Columbine, what would've happened if any teacher or security there had a weapon. Think Harris and Klebold kill 13 people? Maybe 2, but a funny thing happens to people with a gun when they get one pulled on them. The mall shooting in Omaha and the massacre at Virginia Tech, they are related by one significant fact. Both the mall and the university were "no gun zones"...funny, criminals don't follow the law-hence, they're criminals. If anyone with a conceal and carry permit were in either of these nutjobs vicinity, I'm pretty sure we can knock at least one off dead tally.

Why I don't shop at Target-they won't allow the Salvation Army to stand out in front of their stores and receive donations. Corporate claims it's a political establishment. Huh? So it's okay to have t-shirts for kids with a picture of Mao or Che Guevera but the Salvation Army is political. Did I miss something here? 2 of the biggest proponents of Communism, ever, are okay to be part of the grand merchandising scheme, but a charitable organization is political. Yup, because it isn't part of "Your" politics does it become political. How convenient. Well, you'll no longer get my money, Target. Sorry, but that's how I roll, with my wallet. You should see the other stuff I won't support.....

Man drinking a liter of vodka in security line (in Germany)-true story! A guy is in a security line and is told he'll either have to discard the liter bottle of goodness or get charged for putting it in the cargo hold....so this guy decides to just chug it (I should mention he's 64!!!) and goes into alcohol poisoning shock...Ya don't say! Can't we let people like this just die...it's just his version of natural selection.

Networking event last night and the microphone skills. So I went to this networking event last night, and apparently there is a niche market out there for teaching mic skills in addition to presentation skills. Note to all those that will ever get on a mic, even for a damn price check...hold said mic at least 3-4 inches from your mouth, otherwise people will think you have a speech impediment. And they'll go partially deaf, and people don't like that, I know I don't.

Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot died from "an accidental cocaine overdose". How do you know it was an accident? Was there a note...how does a medical examiner find out that it was accidental?

Ike Turner has passed away....what did the 5 fingers say to the face? Slap! Just a reminder, Ike was an animal for beating the daylights out of Tina, but OJ's free after killing 2 people. And I'm sure he'll find the real killers in a sand trap any day now......

We've got politicians who will vote on resolutions for Ramadan but not Christmas, and in Colorado, one of these fine people (cue the sarcasm) states that she did this because she is all for the separation of church and state.....really? 8 years ago I voted in a church, you nimrod!! Let's just say I didn't vote for this wench, and I'm fed up with 2 things, 1)the separation of church and state argument, and 2)stating things are okay for one religion and not another....enough! Show me where it states in our Constitution that there should be a separation of church and state. Know why you can't? It doesn't exist!! It states that ONE religion shouldn't be omnipresent over others. And for those that are trying to vote out Christmas (yes, you ACLU), you're losing, and badly. People have had enough. Guess what holiday is 12/25? It's Christmas, you buffoons.

okay, now to sports

Bobby Petrino..really? You're a mercenary, no better than a Roger Clemens. The Rod Tidwell of coaches, so long as they show you the money, which you translate to love. I saw the press conference, and it made me nauseous, and since I could care less about the Falcons or Arkansas, I knew it was genuine illness, not like when I see someone walking around with a Yankees jacket. I'm not shocked you bombed as a head coach in the NFL, just that you couldn't even do the honorable thing and finish the job. And in the process, you've made DeAngelo Hall look like a voice of reason. That guy is an idiot, and yet he came across with WAY more class then you. Can't wait to see you on the Texas A&M sideline in 3 years.

Arthur Blank, the man that ran Home Depot, it's time for a good ol' cleaning of your Falcons house. Bunker mentality. Step one, hire Mike Singletary, and here's why: When he says something, players will do it. You don't fuck with Samurai Mike! The man was the captain on the baddest (Not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good-Run DMC) defense most of us have ever seen. If a player can't respect SM, then he won't be playing the league for long, anyway.
Don't hire Bill Cowher-you'll be doing what too many companies do, throw good money after bad, when the foundation and processes in which things are done is clearly broken. There is no quick fix, but there is a fix out there....hell, hire me and I'll help! Art, you need to go back and have some frank discussions with your GM, and put together a 1,2,3, and 4 year plan. You've got some players that can play. You've got a really good CB and a decent CB, and some good linebackers on D. You've got a legit #1 WR in Roddy White (stupid t-shirt TD celebration notwithstanding), a Pro Bowl TE in Alge Crumpler, your O-Line isn't atrocious, and a very very fast RB in Jerious Norwood on offense. You've got pieces. Now hunker down and stick with the plan, forget about Michael Vick and the joke that was this year. No one else has ever dealt with anything like this, all at once, so give yourself a mulligan and hit the reset button.

Isiah Thomas has gotten into it with the fans behind the Knicks bench at MSG telling them that the reason they play bad is because the fans don't cheer....uh, have you seen your product lately? Imagine that this guy runs your business, do you hand him a "Closing Soon!" sign with the keys to the establishment? What does it say at the top of his resume-"Turning Gold to crap since '95"? He's bankrupted the CBA, damn near killed the Raptors, made the Pacers into a thuggish crew that couldn't close the deal...and now the Knicks. Zeke, do you have polariods of owner James Dolan in a suggestive pose with barn animals....otherwise, I can't figure out for the life of me how you still have a job.

And I've got a beef with NBA Commissioner David Stern. How can you suspend players for conduct outside of an NBA arena, like Stephen Jackson, but do nothing to the Knicks when they settle a sexual harassment lawsuit for $11.5 million. Doesn't that seem a bit hypocritical? I'm just sayin'....

For Fun, who doesn't want a Fukudome jersey for Christmas....now if he only played in Minnesota....welcome to the, oh nevermind, you'll get my dumb joke in a minute.

The Mitchell report...oooooohhhhh, scary stuff. My 2nd response to this news today will be, "....and?"-because it's not going to really surprise me. My 1st reaction will be, "totally forgot about that guy, but, yeah, I remember him pulling some muscle only Gorilla Monsoon could articulate on the USA network 20 years ago". I'll post the names tomorrow and go thru their statistics....probably with the word "SHOCKING" at the end of each player capsule.

Enjoy Denver @ Houston tonight!

Week 14--seriously???

Alrighty, after watching a couple of games over the weekend, here are my thoughts from someone else's couch for week 14:

Tennessee-close the deal. That's what they'll have to deal with the rest of this week and if they miss out on the playoffs. They had San Diego beat, and quite handily. Honestly, it was a woodshed game for 3 quarters. The Titans were stuffing the run, and Philip Rivers was throwing off his back foot. Kyle Vanden Bosch was part of his pants, making LT Marcus McNeil look like a turnstile. It was impressive. And then they ran out of gas. And can I stop listening to people tell me Vince Young is a winner? He doesn't work at his craft of quarterbacking enough. 7 TDs and 16 picks on the year....who else keeps his job being that awful? Last thing about this team...uh, Chris Brown, maybe you should remember that you're in the NFL, not at CU anymore. You cannot raise a hand in the air from the 3 yard line when there is a LB on your ass...hence you may have scored, but I think you're hurt now...dummy.

SD-luuuuuccckkky. And that's the end of that. I don't want to hear or read that you've made it over the hump as a team. You beat a team on the road. And? I still wouldn't take you over Indy, Pittsburgh, or Jacksonville. I read a lot about their defense being improved, but I'm still thinking they can be beat by the passing game. I love that Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher pounds the ball, he had you beat. I still say San Diego is a fraud, and when the playoffs roll around, Norv Turner will be out-adjusted at halftime.

Dallas-even luckier. Find that horseshoe that got stuck up Detroit K Jason Hanson's patoo and fire it at every opponent from here on out. He missed a 35 yard FG to put the Lions up 9. That would've been the ball-game. Detroit outplayed Dallas. I watched a bunch of this game screaming at the TV, especially when Dallas couldn't sack QB Jon Kitna....he's been hit more than a pinata at a mexican birthday party, and you couldn't touch him?? (total fantasy football implications for me-disclaimer). Detroit called a hell of a game, running some 30 times, and Dallas wasn't ready. I know a lot of people think Dallas is going to the Super Bowl, but if they lay down on the defensive side like that again, I'm thinking Brett Favre, Eli Manning and Matt Hasselbeck will pick them apart in the secondary. All that being stated, Jason Witten had a great game, with 15 catches, including the game-winning TD with :18. Great route, and a damn fine throw. However, Tony Romo's 1st TD of the game was even sweeter. It's nice to watch this guy grow into being a QB, and playing loose. Hey McNabb, you hear that, loose?

Blitzburgh-shhhh. Stop talking, you're trying to speak like a lil' kid that just got his ass whooped by the neighborhood bully...see, there's that snot-bubble again. Knock it off. No more discussion of how good Pittsburgh is. You've beaten 2 teams that are playoff bound right now, Cleveland twice and Seattle. Hmmm, let's look back a few weeks, shall we? You beat a Seattle team at home, 21-0. You beat Cleveland after their Head Coach made some boneheaded moves with timeouts at home, and squeaked by at home after a FG came up short. And you beat Cleveland in Week 1 with Charlie Frye at QB, who was subsequently benched in the 2nd quarter and then dealt to Seattle the next week. The only person that I know of that's noticed this little trend is Emmitt Smith, of all people. I can't stand listening to that guy, but he's right. You've done nothing this year. And you got spanked yesterday. Yes, you ran the ball well. That doesn't help when the opposition scores 14 points in 2 minutes, now does it? Oh, and the little bitch moves at the end will not work in New England. I couldn't listen to the sound of the game, since I was at a bar, and they decided listening to Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker call the Broncos/Chiefs game was way more important. I can only hope the Razor was loud, because our boys will need that come playoff time.

Anthony Smith, your new nickname is Toast. And I wouldn't be surprised if someone ordered a Code Red on you. You're not known in the league, and you went and popped off and guaranteed a win. Your dumb ass should've just said that you were going out there to win a football game, and you won't be going to Foxborough to lay down. Of course, that wouldn't get you in the papers and on ESPN. I can only hope you decide to open your big yapper come playoff time. Believe me, I know Brady, McDaniels and Belichick picked on you. Peyton Manning won't be nice, either, and I'm sure Derek Anderson is hoping to make it and play you in the 1st round.

Patrick Kerney has 13.5 sacks, which leads the league...but 3 3-sack games??? I'd say that investment has been worth it.

Brandon Marshall is going to get fined for throwing snow in the air-back to the No Fun League, after scoring a TD. He showed no one up, yet the league is stating he was using a prop. When the hell did snow become a prop? It came from the sky!!! It's not like he chucked snowballs at the DB he torched, or had them hidden in a cooler and it's September. If he's healthy, that kid is going to Hawaii next season. He's a big receiver with a motor and moves. I'm telling you, next year could be Marshall, Javon Walker and Brandon Stokely lining up in 3WR sets next year. No one in the AFC West has a defense for that. Oakland comes close, but that's it.

Jamaal Tinsley is a target, and yet that's not how it's being portrayed. I've been looking at this all day, and it kind of makes me nauseous. So he went out with his boys, 3 cars, a Rolls, Benz and a Charger. People give him crap as he leaves a club, and he gets followed and shot at. Now, I will not excuse the time he was out, around 3 AM, but how was he asking for it? Haters of the world, let me know. Look, if I had it, I wouldn't flaunt it in cars, it would be in things that appreciate in value, like artwork, gold and real estate. That's me. Jamaal has been a good guy this year, playing at a potential all-star level. The Pacers had stated they needed to talk to him because this behavior isn't really good for the club. Are you kidding me? He went out to hang out at a club with his boys, maybe get a drink or twelve, and look at some booty-shakin' hoochies, and this is his fault. Lord, don't let me become famous.

And finally, a preemptive good luck and attaboy to Eric Mangini-pal, you're about to get pasted. We in New England don't like anyone with the last name of Clemens, so your QB is dead meat. The spread is currenlty at -25 for this weeks NYJ/NE game....it ain't enough. Anyone else looking forward to the coldest of shoulders at the end of the game?

Tuesday, December 4, 2007

Wahhhh....

That was my reaction in high school, college and now to anyone who dared bitch that things don't go their way because of someone else. Boo-hoo. Don't like someone else deciding the outcome of your kickball game? Play better, simple as that. Don't like someone telling you how to handle the Penske file? Work harder and smarter. I really don't have any other answer for you. In life, you have referees, bosses, girlfriends, family and government entities that will want to tell you how to do things, especially if they think you broke a rule.

You may not have been around when the rules were introduced, but that is of no consequence. Ignorance of the law doesn't excuse your failure to follow that law. Now, some laws are subjective, and that's when things get dicey. Not all laws are applied equally. That's part of the joy of humanity. We all know stealing is wrong, but some offenses are worse than others. Snagging a piece of candy from the bulk bin at Piggly Wiggly? Not a big deal to me. Holding up a cashier at a convenience store...well, there's a reason they have a video camera on the register. Not my rules, but pretty easy to follow.

With all of that as a prelude, I now give you the Baltimore Ravens, after losing to the Patriots last night in epic "Duh" fashion----

Bart Scott (on the sideline timeout that negated a play where the Ravens stopped the Patriots on a 4th and short):
"I didn't hear a timeout. That was very convenient."
Derrick Mason:
"Allow the players to dictate how the game is going to go, especially the last couple of seconds. It's kind of like basketball. There's three seconds on the clock. Let the guys play ... You are playing against them and then also you have the other guys and it seems you are playing against them, also."
Terrell Suggs:
"Everybody is kind of cheering for them to go undefeated and break all the records. They called them the greatest offense on earth. So who knows? ... They made one more play than us and they got a little help."
Chris McAllister:
"They just took the crown and put it on their heads."
To each of these 'grown men', I have but one answer for all of your complaints...WAHHH. Go cry on some strippers lap. Bart Scott, did you or did you not cost your team 30 yards in penalties after the Pats scored the go-ahead touchdown? Yup, thought that was your grown ass throwing a tantrum in the middle of the field, just like a 4 yr old girl who doesn't get the Barbie she wanted at KB Toys. Oh, and video replays confirm that it was your own D-Coordinator, Rex Ryan, that called the timeout. Even your head coach stated as such at the press conference. But it's convenient. Weren't you damn near crying on the sidelines after your tantrum. After reading a piece on you in SI, I kind of liked you. Now after seeing your true colors, buh-bye. Look kids, that's a professional athlete acting worse than your little sister!!!

And Derrick Mason, please stop, seriously. You tackled Asante Samuel on that heave at the end of the game. Pretty sure that's against the rules.

As for the others, I love it. Baltimore can suck it for the rest of the year, and hang their hat on almost beating the best team in the NFL. At least one player kind of gives them credit.....

"I think," said Ravens nickel cornerback Corey Ivy, "that the 'S' has kind of been ripped off their shirts. I mean, they're a good team and all, an excellent team. Don't get me wrong. But some of the mystique, the feeling they're unbeatable, well … hey, it's the NFL, we're all paid to play hard, and no one is above being beaten, you know? No one."

Uh, Corey, they are unbeatable, hence the 12-0 record. Where do these assclowns go to school. There are no moral victories to get you to a Super Bowl.

And thanks to Kev for the following:

"You can call it an 'escape' if you want, but that's your word," said tailback Kevin Faulk. "To us it's a win, OK? And it's win No. 12, plain and simple."

I haven't turned on the TV yet to hear everyone give their, "Yeah, but...." about the Pats, because I don't have enough aspirin to kill that headache. All I can say about Baltimore is this-they should've won the game. But they didn't lose because of officiating. They didn't close. That's what they will have to live with. They had 3 chances to drive down the field and shut the door on this Patriots team, and they failed. You cannot give Tom Brady that many chances. He's too good for that. I was mad watching the game because the Pats were getting handled on the line of scrimmage, both on offense and defense. That's something they will need to improve on with Pittsburgh coming to the Razor. And the home crowd better be ready. Next Sunday won't be easy, but it ought to be a win if the Pats put forth the effort.

At least I don't have to listen to Ray-Ray whining, but I sure hope he went to Costco last night for a bulk Kleenex buy, you know, for his teammates.....WAHHHH!

Digging In

Sean Taylor Tribute-cool, but at what cost to the team? In case you didn't see it, the first defensive play from scrimmage, the Redskins only had 10 men on the field. I thought this was awesome, touching, whatever you want to call it. It cost the team nothing, other than the biggest play all game, 22 yards. Better than that, the players didn't come out until after the 4 minutes jumbotron tribute to Taylor. These guys are a mess right now, and since none of our grieving gets viewed on TV, I thought all of these guys held up pretty well. We'll see how they are on Thursday night vs the Bears after they bury their teammate today.

In the, "hey, you know what, you're excused" department, Joe Gibbs gets a pass. Only because I'm not a Redskins fan, so I have no idea what it's like to be one for the last week. The only time I remember a player on any of my favorite teams dying way too early was Len Bias, and I was 10, so my thoughts have changed on the subject (I think). Gibbs tried to call back-to-back timeouts to ice the opposing kicker. It could have cost his team the win, because you can't do that, and it gave the Redskins a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that made the 51 yard attempt a 36 yd attempt. The kick was good. I'm not saying that the Bills kicker would've missed from 51, but it was pouring.

Back to cool coaching moments, I remember Jerry Tarkanian starting 6 seniors at UNLV on senior night. This was back when UNLV was feared and lost to Duke in the Final Four that year. But I remember a reporter asking Tark after the game why he did it, and his reply was something along the lines of those kids busted their butts, and they deserve the recognition. Who cares that they start the game off with a bench technical? And I think they won by 30 anyways. There are times to break the rules, and that hurts no one.

Does AJ Feeley know that Lofa Tatupu isn't on his team? Feeley threw 4 picks yesterday, and 3 went right into the hands of Mosi's kid. Now, if Lofa was a TE for the Eagles, they were great throws, otherwise, can you fine fans in Philly zip it for awhile about McNabb being done? You'll be hating life next year when he's the QB in Chicago leading them to a division title...I'm just sayin'...

To the woman in Missouri who helped a 13 yr old girl commit suicide, I hope your soul rots in purgatory forever and ever. You have no remorse, no scruples. You made a fake MySpace page as a boy, became this girls boyfriend, then dumped her and put nasty messages on the 'net. The girl committed suicide not 20 minutes after reading some of these messages, and her parents found her in her bedroom. We've heard no apology from you. Yet because Missouri had no cyber harassing laws at the time, you will get off scott-free. Lady, karma is a bitch, and you just put a big ol' bullseye on your back for the rest of your natural born life. I'm all for parents being involved in their childrens life, but you took it way too far and decided to play with the emotions of a girl your daughter used to be friends with. Reading about this makes me sick. The fact that there will be no justice for this girls parents makes me furious.

Peter King and the NFL need to tread lightly on the subject of gun ownership. Chris Samuels has now stated that in light of this tragic event of Sean Taylor being shot in his own home he will go thru the proper procedures for owning a gun. King thinks this is a tragedy. Really? How about when 4 thugs show up and break into your home, even when they think no one is home? Shouldn't you protect your home, your family? I myself do not own a home, but I can tell you this is for certain, once the ink is dry on any paperwork I sign on home ownership, the very next purchase will be that of a firearm. I don't understand who Peter King thinks he is. Since when does he get to stand in moral judgement of those that own, legally, mind you, a firearm. And only for protection? For that matter, what right does the NFL have telling these men not to own guns? I'm sure I'm missing something here, but it seems a bit too Big Brother for me.
If Sean Taylor had a gun as opposed to a machete, maybe he'd be alive today. Maybe he wouldn't. But the day a man doesn't have the right to defend his right to private property will be a sad day in this country. We've got enough problems.

The Debil-Woman---so Saturday night I was at a little party in my Aunt's old neighborhood, and I met the definition of the Debil-Woman. This is the woman every man fears marrying. Look, I'm fine with never "wearing the pants" in my relationships. My father gave me great advice years ago, "I've seen the boss' job description, and I don't want it." My Mom runs our family, but not with an iron fist, and not with those not-so-subtle little quips. The reason this lady is now, and will always be referred to, as Debil-Woman, is because of these types of things....she's teaching her 16 year old daughter that it's okay to lie to her boyfriend. Not about anything big, but isn't the big lesson here that it's okay to be shady? Fine by me, but I know the repercussions of this type of mentality...she's going to get cheated on in college. They are not my rules, it's just the way the world works. And then the capper came....people were talking about their anniversaries, and one of the women didn't know. She flipped! "You need to know that information so you can hold it over your husband's head!"--Is this what it's come to? Really? Men, be warned, there are more of them out there than you will ever know. Have a friend like me around to keep you away from them. Screw 'em and maybe even watch a movie with them, but don't you dare marry them. Or else you'll look like the Debil-Woman's husband--soulless, lifeless, and no more fight in him...just worn out. So sad. Consider this a cautionary tale.

Have a great day!
