Sean Taylor, RIP

Sean Taylor, dead at age 24, and for what?

So far, it is being investigated as an armed robbery. And if this is the case, the police and Sean Taylor’s friends are about to go hunting. It’s human nature. Sorry if you don’t like it, but if you tried to rob someone, shot and led to their death, I’m pretty sure I’d go after you, too. I can only hope that the internet takes this stuff and doesn’t run with it, but I’m sure I’ll be wrong on this. Rumors are already out there that this could be a scorned former lover or from Taylor beating up someone 2 years ago. I hope both are wrong, that this was random, and that whomever did this is caught and dealt with. For now, my condolences to Taylor’s family, girlfriend, and 8 month old daughter. Football is a distant second right now. No one should lose their life over defending their home.

Cedric Benson fractured leg above the ankle, done for the year, and for how much longer?

Well, I know some Bears fans out there won’t be hurt by the news, but for Benson, could this be the end of his career? He was averaging less than 4 yards a carry, will be going under the knife shortly, and I’m thinking this is the end of the line for him. Instead of going out with a bang, it’s a mere whimper. Best of luck in your next life, Ced, I hope that degree from Texas is worth something, because I don’t see you plodding for any other team anytime soon.

Pittsburgh, do you know how to read a weather report?

Farmers Almanac? Something? Anything? So you fine folks running Heinz field want to have college and high school games at the same stadium as your beloved Steelers, and that’s great. But since you’re old school, it has to be played on natural grass. And that’s fine, too. How hard is it to look at a weather report a mere 36 hours before a Monday Night Football game and go, ‘Holy crap, it’s going to pour tomorrow and most of Monday’? Gee, Gomer, maybe you shouldn’t install new turf over the beat up stuff so that there’s no drainage. Believe me, a green thumb is not something in my arsenal, but don’t they sell tarps in Pittsburgh??? I barely watched the game, but I did the punts that just stuck in mud, no bounce at all. This ain’t the Olympics, and you aren’t Kerry Strug, “sticking” a landing off the pommel-horse.

Quiet Riot frontman Kevin Dubrow dead at age 52.

I can only pray you are rocking out with the Man upstairs. In a related note, my folks were very cool for allowing me to open up a Columbia House membership and allowing this to be one of my 11 tapes for a penny. Mom may not have been thrilled with certain lyrics, but “Cum on Feel The Noise” would certainly help her clean the house.

Sonny Lubick no longer coaching @ CSU, what's the deal?

No one knows at this time, and I know this won’t make headlines on the national level, but still. I’ve been up to Ft. Collins numerous times to watch football games, and I can tell you that Sonny definitely put that school on the map, and anyone that played that team knew they’d be in for a fight. His last 4 years weren’t spectacular, but when the field is named for you while you’re still coaching should allow you the chance to leave on your terms, and it doesn’t appear that way currently. And some of the alumni are pissed, and they talk with their checkbooks, so I’m told. Bentley probably won’t get another dime from me because they have a new president with a hyphenated name. It’s my money, so that’s how I deal with it.

Political talk, skip over if you don't want to read it, I won't be offended...
Presidential hopeful Bill Richardson is now stating body count of American Soldiers is not an effective measuring tool for success in Iraq. Regardless of how you feel about this War, I'm pretty sure less than 6 months ago that the body count was a major point of emphasis for Richardson, Hitlary, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and wanting troops pulled out. Now that the numbers are going down they aren't important anymore?
I'm reminded of Rowdy Roddy Piper, "Just when you think you know the answers, I change the questions."--at least it feels like circular logic to me.

I knew I always liked this guy...
Please read the link, regarding what Kyle Turley is up to. Even when defending a QB like Aaron Brooks on a Sunday night game vs. the Jets so many years ago ripping off helmets, this is pretty damn cool...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3129741

Some call Turley nuts for that Jets episode, but any of you that have played sports knows that if one of your own is getting his head ripped off, you defend him. Especially if you are a lineman and it’s your QB. Like a catcher and his pitching staff.

Rumored Santana to Yankees deal-why deal studs for him but not Cabrera?

So we’re clear here, Hank Steinbrenner is talking to the press, but not the GM of the team, Brian Cashman. Boy are the Yankees going to be pissed when Cashman revamps a team like Tampa Bay. The Yankees are apparently talking to the Minnesota Twins about 2-time Cy Young winner Johan Santana, and they may be willing to part with Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, or Ian Kennedy. Not all of them, mind you, but include one of them in the deal. They’d deal their future stud closer or one of their frontline pitchers of the future for Santana but not include any in a discussion for Miguel Cabrera? Why am I not shocked. Look, I know pitching and defense win in the postseason, but the Yankees are old. Santana is 28, but he’s still a pitcher. He will only play once every 5 days. I know Cabrera looks like he is about to eat his way out of the league in 3 years, but he’s only 24….and an everyday player. Pitchers get hurt all the time, and who’s to say that Santana can handle the pressure of New York? Look at Cabrera, at least he’s played for your new manager, Joe Girardi. I just can’t fathom giving up young arms for one arm, or giving up an arm for a guy who has stud numbers thru his first few years at the plate. And with the leadership on the Yankees (Jeter, Posada) plus the other Dominicans, I just think they’d keep Miggy away from the post-game spread…I’m just sayin’

I love the gymnastics comment! But Kerri never used the pommel-horse! It's a man only gymnastics event...she landed the vault.

I can't believe you didn't say something about that 28 year old ex-rockies' pitcher who died too! What the hell is going on in this world?
