So since I'm house-sitting, there is a park a few blocks away. It's pretty much the happening park for all those people that like to run and be in shape. Me, I walk it with the ipod blaring. It's considered exercise, so there. What gets me is 2 things I've seen in the last 2 days....first is the lady hauling her kid in the exorbatent stroller, running, with the phone ear-piece..lady are you kidding me? How about interacting with the kid??? That's a human being, not an accessory like a damn purse. The second one is the lady who is jerking around her dogs, and not in the good way. Dogs like to sniff trees and bushes, so I'm told. Apparently, they like to go to the bathroom, too. But this lady keeps yanking her dogs every time they slow down to sniff a tree. It's a friggin' park, you loon! What are they supposed to do? I wonder who the bitch is in this threesome...nope, it's the lady yanking on the chain. Be glad I'm not a dog, or biting would be in order.
Week 11 Wrap-up
I'll be brief (ya, right). But here are my thoughts on this past week in the NFL....
Jason David will cure whatever is ailing your passing game. The guy has been lit up more than a bong at a State U. He's the definition of a system player. Good Cover 2 corner. God-awful in man to man, he can't do it. He's a safety next year if anyone has any brains.
Why, why, why did Bobby Petrino start Byron Leftwich? Joey Harrington won 2 games in a row, was completing 60% of his passes, and is mobile. If you see any highlights from this game, note 2 things...1)Leftwich winds up like he's on the diamond, not the football field. 2)Mobility, which is necessary in this league, is not on his list of top 20 skills. Oh, and how can any owner trust someone who asks to be called Bobby...this ain't Talladega Nights.
Brett Favre is chucking it all over the place, and they Packers D looks great. I hope I get to watch them play Dallas on 11/29. That looks like a preview of the NFC Championship right now.
Tony Romo to TO 4 times for TD's....uh, you might want to cover him. That guy, he's pretty good. But if you don't think the Pats were watching the game and Brady and Moss just kind of had that look to each other, you're either in denial or you're nuts. 4 TD's in the 1st half? The Patriots are playing like a video game right now. They're playing Chess, everyone else is playing checkers. It's that simple.
San Diego is toast. And what a waste of talent. I say they're 8-2 with Marty still at the helm.
The fact that I live in Denver and have to hear people out here think that their beloved Broncos, with a 5-5 record, have a shot to go to the Super Bowl, is asinine. Who have they beaten, and how have they beaten them? They beat Buffalo and Oakland on last minute FG's. Wow, big W's there, boys. They beat the 3rd biggest fraud, Pittsburgh, at home. Come on, they aren't doing anything even if they make the playoffs. They are .500, with a game at Chicago this Sunday. They should win, but I get the feeling they'll get blasted by Rex Grossman. It's just a hunch.
I mentioned the 3rd biggest fraud being Pittsburgh, after losing to the Jets in OT. They are now 2-4 on the road. Sorry, but if you want to be considered a good team in my book, you simply win the games you're supposed to win. They gave up 7 sacks!!! And this is the team that New England should worry about? Sorry, not buying it.
But who are the other 2 biggest frauds? Easy, San Diego and Baltimore. San Diego still shocks me, only because I thought it would take a whole season before their collapse. And as much as I don't like him, I do feel for LT2. He's got another 3 great years, maybe, tops in his career. And he has to deal with a bumbling morons for coaches. 4th and 2 last Sunday to keep a drive going and them in the game, and he calls a pitch to the outside against a very good run D? Wow.
As for Baltimore, I'm done hearing about them. Tell Ray Lewis to retire. He puts his own teammates down, his coaches down, but never owns up to anything. Yes, he had a INT for TD, so what? You and I could've made that catch. That throw was well behind the receiver, into the arms of the trailing Lewis. Other than that, his offense gave him 23 points. Who's fault is it now Ray? Are you going to blame the officials for correctly calling the Phil Dawson FG good? You're not even the best LB on your team. The offense is pitiful, and they are so stubborn that they kept kicking to Joshua Cribbs, the guy who will be in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. Do you not watch film? 3 guys you don't kick to...Hester, Cribbs and Leon Washington of the Jets. You're playing with fire when you do.
Hell, I need a job, one of you teams hire me as a consultant! I'm not asking for much.
Hot Stove
So I hear that A-Rod is going to re-sign with the Yankees. Let me be one of the first people to congratulate the Steinbrenner boys on the dumbest move they could make. That guy may put fannies in the seats, and your Dad's team may even make the playoffs, but between this and the other 2 signings, I'm thinking the Red Sox or someone else will win the AL East for the next 5 years, at least. It's simple, really. The guy is not a winner. Period. Never has been, never will be. Skip Bayless said it this morning, so here goes....In his last 59 postseason at-bats, he's had 38 men on base. Guess how many have scored? Zero. Zilch. Nada. None. That's not a slump, boys and girls. That is the way it is.
Between A-Rod, giving Posada a 4 year deal at age 36, and Rivera a 3 year deal at age 38, thanks so very much. As much as I don't like the Yankees, I am amazed when they do things this dumb. Look, next year, the OF will be damn near averaging 34 years old. Not spring chickens. Jeter is 32. Where are the kids besides Cano and Melky? And you'll have to find a spot for Melky. The youth is in the pitching, but they are wasting an asset. Joba Chamberlain should be their closer next year. Young, dominant arm. The kid is fearless. I don't like that his story got plastered everywhere, but that's mostly because I hate the Yankees. If he were on the Sox, I'd love the kid. But really, I've spoken about this to some NYY fans, and they get surprised and then ticked, because they know they have a couple of years left with Giambi, Damon, and Matsui. And then, there are no more position players coming at the moment. Arms are great, but you never know how anyone will turn out when they get to the show.
and lastly....
in case you weren't sure if there was a double standard for normal folk and college athletes,
